Community Development Corporation Careership Program

Metropolitan State University has partnered with the Twin Cities Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) who was awarded a Human Capital Development Initiative (HCDI) grant to attract and retain new leaders who reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of the neighborhoods in which Community Development Corporations (CDCs) work.

The grant strategies include a mid-career apprenticeship program called the Careership Program that will offer persons with some work experience a stipend for an 18-month part-time work experience with a CDC. The work experience along with other additional education and training is geared towards internship marketing to drawing future leaders, particularly students of color from area colleges and universities, into a career in a CDC by exposing them to the work through a paid internship experience. Students interested in this grant should contact Susan Shumer at susan.shumer@metrostate.edu.

Capital Bonding Requests

  • Building C/Power Plant Annex
This project addresses a 70-year old structure that remains unfit for use and in desperate need of construction funds. The current structure does not meet fire and safety codes, and it has no ventilation or cooling system.

Design funds were appropriated in 1994 to provide needed space for classrooms, an academic testing center and student services.

  • Property Acquisition, Saint Paul Campus
Acquiring the balance of the land in the approved Master Academic and Facilities Plan allows for a coherent approach to institutional growth and development. Urban environments make it necessary to acquire land whenever it becomes available.
