Students interested in pursuing a major in computer information technology, computer science, or computer forensics must apply to the program. To be eligible for admission to any ICS major, students must be admitted to the university and meet minimum application requirements. The following prerequisite courses or equivalents must be completed with a C- or better, or competency in previous work experience must be demonstrated. Transfer credit for these courses is common.

Computer Information Technology

  • MATH 115 - College Algebra
  • MATH 215 Discrete Mathematics
  • ICS 140 Programming Fundamentals
  • ICS 141 Programming with Objects 
  • ICS 141 and MATH 215 must be completed with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better.

Computer Science

  • MATH 115 College Algebra AND MATH 116 Trigonometry OR MATH 120 Pre calculus
  • MATH 210 Calculus I
  • ICS 140 Programming Fundamentals
  • ICS 141 Programming with Objects 
  • ICS 240 Programming with Elementary Data Structures
  • ICS 141, ICS 240, and MATH 215 must be completed with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better.

    Computer Forensics

    • CFS 262 Computer and Operating System Fundamentals I
    • CFS 264 Computer and Operating System Fundamentals II
    • CFS 280 Introduction to Computer Forensics or CJS 210 Introduction to Criminal Justice
    • All three courses must be completed with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better.

    All three majors require students to complete two writing courses, as defined to meet general education requirements. Students on academic probation/warning will not be admitted to the program.
