Professional Associations

Active membership in a professional association or organization can be very helpful to professionals and students working in or interested in a particular field. Professional associations are an excellent resource for job seekers as well. They often have job postings on their websites and options to join listservs which can be great networking tools. Most professional associations offer a discounted student rate which has all of the benefits of the full price membership.

A few reasons to get involved in a professional association:

  • Networking and the chance to build relationships with professionals from a variety of settings.
  • Opportunities to build your skills in leadership, project management, event planning, and other areas.
  • Free and discounted admission to professional development and social events.
  • Best practices and inside information on trends affecting your field.
  • Job leads, training and professional development opportunities.
  • Chance for you to contribute and influence your profession and field.
  • Gives you a competitive edge when applying for positions within your field.

Travelers Professional Development/Emergency Fund

Travelers understands that students sometimes experience unexpected life events that can make it difficult to afford the things they need to continue to develop professionally. The purpose of this fund is to provide financial assistance beyond tuition and fees for urgent, unexpected financial hardships that prevent attendance to Travelers sponsored events or other Pathways Program-related opportunities.

Examples of qualifying expenses include, but are not limited to, transportation, child care, workshop registration fees, professional association membership fees, and professional attire. Students must demonstrate a legitimate need for funds by describing the nature of their situation. For more information and/or an application form, contact Emily Sladky.
