Minnesota Veteran and Militar Women's Summit
The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs is hosting its first Women Veteran and Military Women's Summit on October 16 & 17, 2009 at the Mall of America Ramada Inn. To view the summit information go to http://www.mdva.state.mn.us/ and select more information under WOMEN VETERAN SUMMIT.
This event is specifically designed to allow military women, active duty women and spouses of active military or veterans an enjoyable opportunity. You will gain valuable information on past military service and veteran's services. The Department has planned a variety of exciting speakers, vendors will be providing gifts and service providers will be present to address your needs. The event is free of charge. You will need to register and make arrangements for housing on Friday night if you choose to stay on location.

Metropolitan State Veterans Network Student Organization (MSVN)
The Veterans' Network is a student organization with the goal of supporting veterans and their families as they attend the university. Through social and informational activities, we can provide opportunities for veterans to meet and support each other. We are a resource for information on services available on and off campus, and we advocate on issues that impact veterans. MSVN encourages veterans, their families, Metropolitan State faculty, staff and students who support veterans to participate in our activities. Membership is open to all Metropolitan State Students.

Chapter 33 Post 9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008
Veterans who have served on active duty since 9/11/01 will have the option to change from their current GI Bill program to the new Ch. 33 starting Aug. 1, 2009. The DVA began accepting applications on May 1. The Ch. 33 program has many changes, and may or may not be the best option for you. For the latest information and a benefit comparison chart, please refer to www.GIBILL.va.gov. Veterans Services can assist you in calculating benefits before you decide which program is best for you.
Summer and fall semester registration opened on March 23. We recommend that you register for courses and let Veterans Services know how many credits you are taking as usual. We will certify your registration in your current chapter. If you elect to receive benefits under the new program, we will then make the changes with the VA. Ch. 33 certification Opened July 6.

Military Salute Project
The Military Salute Project of Woodbury will conduct 80 gravesite visitations in Minnesota and western Wisconsin this spring and summer. The participants will place memorial wreaths at the graves to honor those who have fallen in the War on Terror since 2001.
