For Undergraduate Students:

After receiving an admission letter/acceptance packet, as a new degree seeking student you are required to complete online or on-campus orientation before or during your first semester of courses.

You first need to complete the following two steps before getting registered for orientation:

Step 1: Activate your NetDirect Account

With your 8-digit Student/Tech ID number (upper right hand corner of your admission letter) and your PIN (set to the format of YYMMDD for your birthdate or last six digits of your social security number) you can activate your NetDirect account. If you have any problems with your PIN, please contact Gateway Student Services at 651 793-1302.

NetDirect is your personal access point to Metropolitan State University's tools, resources and student services support.

  • Activating your account will create your NetDirect account login and create your University email account which allows you to receive official communications from the University.
  • Your NetDirect account must be activated in order to gain access to the Online Orientation.

Step 2: Complete any required Diagnostic Assessments

If you are required to complete a diagnostic assessment, it will be indicated in your admission letter. You must complete diagnostic assessments before you can register for courses.

After completing Steps 1 & 2 there are two formats for orientation:

Option 1: Online Orientation

Option 2: On-Campus Orientation

Please Note:  If you select one orientation format and wish to switch to the other format, please call Gateway Student Services at 651 793-1234 or email records.registration@metrostate.edu to switch, please have your ID number handy.
