President Ginny Arthur is re-elected to Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities executive committee

Saint Paul, Minnesota—Metropolitan State University President Ginny Arthur has been re-elected to the Coalition of Urban and Metropolitan Universities (CUMU) executive committee.

Elections were conducted virtually on Oct. 27, 2020 during the CUMU president’s council meeting. Members of the executive committee are presidents and chancellors of CUMU member institutions and are elected to serve two-year terms in their respective positions. This is President Arthur’s second term on the committee, and is active through 2022.

The executive committee members are nominated and elected by peers from CUMU member institutions. Each has demonstrated their commitment to the CUMU mission of promoting and enhancing urban and metropolitan universities.

“CUMU relies on and is the beneficiary of the strong leadership of presidents and chancellors who lead CUMU member institutions. I look forward to working with the new and returning executive committee members to advance the CUMU mission and to strengthen our urban and metropolitan communities,” said Bobbie Laur, executive director, CUMU.

CUMU is dedicated to its member institutions and to the creation and dissemination of knowledge on the issues that face urban and metropolitan campuses and the communities served. CUMU’s mission ensures sustained attention to the exchange of information and ideas among member institutions about higher education’s role in urban and metropolitan settings, engenders a unified approach to the resolution of common challenges, and develops a clearer understanding within the higher education community and among public policy makers and the public about the distinctive roles played by urban and metropolitan institutions.

CUMU’s objectives are achieved through strategies, programs, and activities that support research and information exchange, institutional engagement and service, and public information and advocacy. CUMU’s position aligns with Metropolitan State University’s mission as a comprehensive urban university committed to meeting the higher education needs of the Twin Cities and greater metropolitan area.
