IME-BECAS Scholarship applications due September 25

Metro State University and the Mexican Consulate’s Institute of Mexicans Abroad (IME-BECAS) are opening the 2023 application period for the IME-BECAS scholarship on August 29. Students of Mexican ancestry can apply for the scholarship worth up to $1,200.
Eligibility Requirements for IME-BECAS Scholarship:
- Must be currently enrolled for fall 2023 as a degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate student at Metro State University
- Must demonstrate financial need – no FAFSA requirement
- Must demonstrate Mexican origin either through birth or with a Mexican-born parent by showing a Mexican document (Mexican birth certificate, Mexican consular ID, Mexican passport or Mexican IFE)
- Must be in good academic standing and have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50 or Transfer GPA
- Must attend IME-BECAS Award Ceremony (in-person) at Normandale Community College tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 26, from 4–6 p.m.
- Recipient must participate in check-in meetings and provide academic progress update
Application Materials and Process:
- Submit an essay/personal statement in English (no more than two pages) describing financial need, academic goals, leadership interests, family background, and reasons applicant should receive this award
- Include current or most recent unofficial college transcript from Metro State University (or transfer institution for new, first-time students)
Apply online and submit completed application materials no later than 11 p.m. on Monday, September 25.
