Jackson, Mississippi — Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) has named Metro State University to its 2024 Transfer Honor Roll in recognition of the dynamic pathways the Twin Cities university has created to support transfer students. This year's Transfer Honor Roll includes 228 colleges and universities and was determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost and financial aid, campus life for transfer, admission practices, and bachelor’s degree completion.
The Transfer Honor Roll is based on analysis from the National Student Clearinghouse, and on data submitted through the four-year institution’s profile on PTK Connect, Phi Theta Kappa’s online tool designed to help students find their best-fit colleges and career pathways.
Colleges completing the PTK Connect profile are given a Transfer Friendliness Rating. The Honor Roll is chosen from among the top 25 percent highest-rated colleges.
The Transfer Honor Roll recognizes the importance of creating strong transfer pathways that lead to excellence and success among community college transfer students, and this year’s winners had exceptional outcomes.
“The goal of most students attending community college is earning a bachelor’s degree, but few do because of financial barriers and the complexity of the transfer process,” says Lynn Tincher-Ladner, President and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa. “We are proud to recognize the exceptional colleges and universities that go above and beyond to create accessible pathways to bachelor’s degree completion for community college transfer students.”
As part of the Minnesota State system, Metro State University provides:
- Seamless transitions for students from community college partners directly into corresponding bachelor's degree programs and convenient metro area locations or completely online.
- Credit for Prior Learning assessments awarding credit for learning in non-classroom settings, further removing barriers to educational opportunity.
- Dedicated, professional advisors to assist students with questions and challenges ranging from class schedules and degree requirements to other issues affecting their progress toward earning their degrees.
At Metro State, more than 90% of the student body is comprised of transfer students and the average student age is 30. The university offers several start dates for undergraduate and graduate students to begin their studies each academic year, as well as a supportive process for new students to apply and get started when it's convenient for them.
