Biography
Brian Higbee joined Metropolitan State University in 2017 as the operations coordinator for the Institute for Community Engagement and Scholarship, where he performs administrative, logistics, event planning, and customer service functions for the department. Currently, Brian serves on the university’s Strategic Integrated Marketing Council, Community Engagement Council, Art Exhibition Committee, Library Events Committee, the Understanding and Responding to Mass Incarceration (URMI) planning team, and the Anti-Racism Coalition.
Prior to moving to Minnesota in 2017, Brian was a program coordinator of the BuildingWorks pre-apprenticeship program with the New York City District Council of Carpenters Training Center. On three occasions he volunteered with the Leary Firefighters Foundation, in collaboration with the New Orleans Fire Department, to help with rebuilding efforts in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina. Working with the group H.E.A.R.T. 9/11, he assisted in coordinating reconstruction efforts in hard-hit coastal areas such as Coney Island and Staten Island following Superstorm Sandy.
Brian holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in communications design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he majored in illustration. Since 2018, he has been a visitor experience volunteer at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
