Biography
Bryan (Bry) Maurer joined the College of Individualized Studies as an academic advisor, in February of 2023.
Before advising at Metro State, Maurer was at Walden University advising undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Management and Technology. He taught college music courses from 2007-2017 in a wide variety of subjects, such as: music education; appreciation; history; theory; percussion techniques; and music technology. His teaching appointments have been with the Community Music Division and Music Department at Old Dominion University, Minnesota West Community & Technical College, and the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
During his time at Walden University, Bryan was recognized for providing outstanding student service. He received the 2019 Influencer Award and 2020 Student Advocate Award.
Mr. Maurer has many hobbies and interests, some of which include: playing guitar and singing; walking and going on outdoor adventures; and reading and researching his family history. (Of course, his most favorite pastime is… enjoying a conversation!)
Bry holds a bachelor's degree in music composition and a master's in music education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. He has been co-author on a published doctoral research project and co-presenter with Dr. Roque Diaz, Senior Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at MacPhail Center for Music in Minneapolis.
