Student Office Assistant for the Women’s and LGBTQIA+ Center

Major job duties

  • Greet students and other guests in a professional manner;
  • Help with general office management, but not limited to filing, answering and directing phone communication, responding to emails, scheduling appointments, confirming room reservations, copying, faxing, postal mailing, and creating purchase orders (via computer).
  • Assist with student intake
  • Researching identity-based topics
  • Develop flyers, other marketing materials and correspondence.
  • Contribute to the development of related programming for the Multicultural, American Indian, and Retention Services Department (MAIR) Director, Student Success Coordinators, and Dean of Students.
  • Assist with planning, completing, and promoting events for Multicultural, American Indian, and Retention Services department and its intended populations and communities.
  • Work focuses on duties to support students who identify as women or LGBTQIA+, but is not limited to these student populations.

Position Purpose:

This position will assist the Women’s & LGBTQIA+ Center. We are a part of Multicultural, American Indian and Retention Services (MAIR) Department in Student Affairs/Student Success/Dean of Students in the development and execution of Women’s, LGBTQIA+, and multicultural, diverse and inclusive programming, retention initiatives and growth of connections with internal and community resources.

The student will help support Women’s and LGBTQIA+, students continuing their education and promoting respectful dialogues, brave and Affirming spaces, and a healthy learning environment.

The position requires students to physically work in the center.

Qualifications and experience

  • Must be a currently enrolled or plan to enroll Fall semester 2024 undergraduate or graduate student at Metropolitan State University and making satisfactory academic progress. The student must be enrolled and making satisfactory academic progress for each semester during the term of employment.
  • Provide basic academic support services and information to students and their dependents and other community members such as alums and local community members.
  • Excellent customer service skills (phone, in-person, public presentations, Zoom meetings, Teams, communication emails, newsletters, etc.)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Reliability, punctuality and responsibility.
  • Desire to motivate and assist students in attending to their academic progress, physical and emotional health.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Patience, empathy, supportive active listening skills.
  • Ability to research culturally relevant, diverse and inclusive topics.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Self-starter; demonstrated initiative and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability and interest in working in environments diverse in identity.
  • Experience with providing services to historically underrepresented populations.
  • Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Office, virtual meeting platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc.)

  • This position works with students, Student Success/Student Affairs/ Dean of Students, staff, faculty and advisors, alums, and community social services and other providers.
