Metropolitan State University proudly serves its veteran students

Posted November 9, 2017

To the Metropolitan State community:

As Minnesota and the nation prepare to honor the service and sacrifices of our veterans, I want to pause today to share Metropolitan State University’s commitment to our veterans, especially those who are our students, alumni, faculty, and staff. This year, Veterans Day, Nov. 11, is being observed in work and school settings on Friday, Nov. 10.

It is our university’s privilege to serve more veterans, active service members, and military family members than any other university or college in Minnesota. We take that privilege and responsibility seriously. We are proud to be a “Beyond the Yellow Ribbon” company and part of Minnesota’s Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network. As a member of this active network, we have welcomed two breakfast gatherings of veterans and their supporters in the week before Veterans Day. Last week, a Beyond the Yellow Ribbon Network event filled the Great Hall, and yesterday we enjoyed our second annual gathering with enthusiastic veterans and senior leaders from U.S. Bank.

Our Veterans and Military Student Services Center works year-round to assist veterans with navigating the admissions process, veterans services, and educational benefits, as well as providing a dedicated campus space for meeting other veterans, studying, and getting online.

Today, the center is hosting a continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in their space in Founders Hall 201. All are welcome, and there will be a “Thank You” wall” for leaving messages of thanks or remembrance.

Our veteran and active service students and colleagues bring unique experiences and perspectives, and enrich the diversity of our university community every day. While we all will have opportunities to take part in remembrance events in our own communities this weekend, it is also gratifying to know that Metropolitan State is a daily meeting place for veterans who are laying the foundations for their futures. We are grateful for their presence and their service.

Sincerely,

President Virginia "Ginny" Arthur, JD
