ANES 737P DNP Anesthesia Practicum V

Students build on skills developed in practicum IV to further develop integration of scientific and anesthetic principles. ¿Proficient¿ nurse anesthesia students apply scientific and anesthetic principles, evidence-based practice and safety & quality guidelines to psychomotor skills, critical thinking and decision-making. Students in this practicum require rare supporting and directive cues from preceptors while exhibiting more confidence and application of clinical judgement. Students gain clinical experience in caring for the patient who is moribund and may present emergently, as well as the organ donor patient. (PS V, VE and VI).

Prerequisites: Prior to taking this practicum, you must have successfully completed the following: NURS 736P.

Learning outcomes

General

  • Analyze biomedical equipment and supplies for relevance, accuracy and safety for quality patient care;
  • Formulate cost-effective, evidence-based plans of care based on patient's physical status, procedural or diagnostic needs;
  • Communicate effectively with patients, family and other healthcare providers;
  • Employ reflective practice to improve patient outcomes and quality of care; and
  • Exhibit professional leadership behaviors of responsibility, accountability and integrity.
  • Apply ethical principles to nurse anesthesia care.
  • Appraise patient¿s health and functional risk status for safe diagnostic, surgical and deliver anesthetic care for patients of all PS, ranging from 1-6, including emergencies with minimal support from preceptor;
  • Identify and address the impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion on anesthesia care;
  • Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively with other healthcare professions to provide safe and effective care;
  • Analyze the concepts of nursing theory and they can be used to guide nurse anesthesia care.
