CFS 262 IT Infrastructure Fundamentals

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of computer hardware, operating systems, networking, and cybersecurity. Students will learn to install, configure, and troubleshoot computer components, mobile devices, operating systems, and software while applying basic security practices. The course covers diagnosing and resolving common technical issues, servicing hardware components, and documenting and communicating technical support solutions. Additionally, students will explore operating system architectures, cloud computing, virtualization, scripting, and multi-OS environments. Through hands-on labs, students will gain practical skills essential for IT support roles and CompTIA A+ certification preparation.

Learning outcomes

General

  • Install and configure computer hardware, peripherals, mobile devices, and operating systems to meet end-user requirements.
  • Identify and service key computer components and peripherals based on customer specifications and operational needs.
  • Explain fundamental networking concepts and apply basic cybersecurity practices to mitigate common threats.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot common hardware, software, and connectivity issues using systematic problem-solving techniques.
  • Document and communicate technical support solutions effectively while providing customer-focused assistance.
  • Describe and differentiate cloud computing, virtualization, scripting, and multi-OS deployment concepts in corporate IT environments.
  • Demonstrate proper safety and security procedures when handling hardware, software, and networking equipment.
