DSCI 420 Project Management

This course focuses on developing the skills needed to become a successful project manager and project team member using quantitative methods and technology tools to enhance critical problem-solving. Topics covered include all aspects of project management from project initiation issues and project planning to scheduling, organization, implementation, monitoring progress and controlling by using technology driven approaches. This includes project management techniques such as PERT, CPM and project evaluation methods using Microsoft Project software.

  • Explain the basics of the art and science of project management.
  • Demonstrate proficiency using the quantitative techniques of PERT and CPM for project scheduling, resource allocation, and control, ensuring projects deliver their objectives.
  • Develop technical competency in using Microsoft Project for planning, tracking, and reporting project progress.
  • Conduct risk analysis and use quantitative analysis and problem-solving frameworks to mitigate risks in project execution.
  • Contribute to team-based projects using collaborative problem-solving, promoting interdisciplinary teamwork, and STEM-based strategies.
  • Implement effective leadership and communication strategies to manage team performance, integrating both project management's human and technical sides to promote sustainable projects.
