NURS 313 Skill Foundations II

This clinical and lab course builds on the knowledge, skills and abilities from Skills Foundation I. The course focuses on the application of holistic theories and frameworks to guide nursing care of clients with alterations in mental and physical health. Students will utilize clinical judgment to provide holistic, evidence-based nursing care in the learning lab and select clinical settings across the healthcare continuum.

Prerequisite: Admission to Prelicensure BSN program. Co-requisite: NURS 312, NURS 313, NURS 314, NURS 414.

Learning outcomes

General

  • Apply the nursing process, clinical judgement, Modeling and Role-Modeling (MRM) and other theories, frameworks, and concepts to provide safe, ethical, evidence-based, holistic, person-centered nursing care for adults across the health/illness continuum. (SFI, M/S I, NT)
  • Examine the impact of stigma, structural racism, and inequity on the health of individuals and families. (MH, M/S 1)
  • Utilize effective communication techniques to establish trusting, collaborative relationships with the client, family, and members of the interprofessional healthcare team. (SK I, M/S I).
  • Implement select nursing skills and healthcare technologies to enhance client outcomes in a variety of settings. (SFI, M/S I)
  • Demonstrate nursing care consistent with professional nursing standards. (SFI, M/S I)
