NURS 423 Skill Foundations IV

This clinical and lab course builds on the knowledge, skills and abilities from Skill Foundations I, II, and III courses. This course is the second in a series of two in the prelicensure BSN program associated with Medical Surgical Nursing and focuses on the increasingly complex adult client including those that are critically ill. The course focuses on the application of holistic theories and frameworks to guide nursing care of clients with alterations in physical health. Students will integrate clinical judgment when providing holistic, evidence based nursing care in the learning lab, simulation, and complex clinical settings.

Learning outcomes

General

  • Integrate the nursing process, clinical judgement, Modeling and Role Modeling (MRM) and other theories, frameworks, and concepts to provide safe, ethical, evidence-based, holistic, person centered nursing care for adults in complex care settings.
  • Analyze the impact of stigma, structural racism, and inequity when caring for the acutely ill client.
  • Initiate effective communication techniques to enhance collaborative relationships with the acutely ill client, family, and members of the interprofessional healthcare team.
  • Utilize health information technology and nursing skills in working with acutely ill clients to enhance outcomes of care.
  • Demonstrates leadership development when caring for acutely ill clients through interprofessional advocacy, case management, and care coordination.
  • Demonstrate nursing care consistent with professional nursing standards.
