NURS 465 Leadership and Management in Nursing

This course focuses on concepts related to individual development and contextual knowledge necessary to prepare nurses to act as leaders and advocates in a variety of health-related environments. Students will analyze the roles of the baccalaureate prepared nurse within systems, utilizing holistic, anti-racist, equity-oriented, theoretical, and evidence-based principles.

General

  • Analyze theoretical components of leadership, systems, social justice, anti-racism, holism, and related nursing theories into professional nursing practice.
  • Demonstrate principles of communication, teamwork, and collaboration that promote equitable, optimal group and/or client outcomes.
  • Apply concepts of quality, safety, change management, informatics processes, evidence-based practice, and communication technologies within a health care context.
  • Describe basic principles of policy, finance, economics, human resources, and regulatory environments influencing the healthcare system.
  • Analyze advocacy, both within and beyond the discipline and clinical focus in nursing, to promote holistic, equitable health and healthcare policy.
