Join us for a screening of “Stories I Didn’t Know” followed by a facilitated conversation with co-director Rita Davern, Dakota educator Ramona Kitto Stately, and Dakota artist Reuben Kitto Stately.

In "Stories I Didn't Know," Davern exposes an ugly reality at the heart of a family legend. A search for her Irish ancestors leads her down an unexpected path to a family secret about a sacred piece of land. Davern’s attempts to understand what happened leads her on a journey that requires facing the complicated legacy of westward expansion in the U.S. Along the way she meets Ramona Kitto Stately, a Dakota educator. What Kitto Stately’s ancestors experienced because of U.S. government policies puts faces and names on this story.

Appetizers served in the Founders Hall Reception Area. This screening is free and open to the Metro State community.

For those that cannot attend in-person, use the Zoom link https://minnstate.zoom.us/s/97579661203 to join virtually. For questions, email OEI@metrostate.edu.
