Biography
Luke Morgan serves as the Associate Director of the Writing Center, part of Tutoring and Testing Services. He joined the team in 2019 and served as Coordinator before moving into his current position. Luke holds an MA and PhD in Literature, Social Justice, and Environment from Texas Tech University and bachelors degrees in English and history from Abilene Christian University. Throughout his graduate education, he gained experience in writing centers as a graduate tutor and administrator, and as an instructor in composition, literature, and film courses.
Morgan's work at Metro State includes leading writing support services and outreach. He helps coordinate several service collaborations across the university to expand access to writing support, including Research and Writing Help, Resume Drop-In, and embedded tutoring. He currently serves as MMA representative for the Faculty Giving Taskforce, and outside of his work at Metro, serves as an officer on the Midwest Writing Center Association Board, and as a coordinator for meetings of the Writing Center Professionals of Minnesota.
Drawing on his work with a diverse, multi-generational team of professional and peer writing tutors, Morgan's research now focuses on representation and pedagogy of professional tutors in writing centers. His current project, exploring values and relationships in supervising professional tutors, is forthcoming in the collected edition The Reluctant Supervisor: Recognizing and Rethinking Power in Writing Center Supervisory Practices. Other ongoing projects explore collaboratively staffed service models and the role of physical spaces in writerly practices. Luke has also published articles in Western American Literature and Resilience: A Journal of the Environmental Humanities.
