The Metro State Social Work Department is excited to announce the Urban School Social Work Training Program!
The goal of the Metro State Urban School Social Work Training Program is to develop culturally responsive school social workers who are prepared to respond to the unique gifts and needs of students in urban schools. Students in the program will develop the ethics, knowledge, competencies, and skills necessary for multicultural social work practice with students, teachers, families, schools, and communities.
Program participants will enroll in a 4-credit urban school social work practice course, obtain preparation for the social work licensure exam, participate in a paid practicum in an urban public-school setting, complete a school-based community service project, and obtain post-graduation licensure for social work practice in schools. In addition to this training, students accepted into the program will receive financial support for tuition, fees, textbooks, school social work conference attendance, in addition to financial support for the attainment of the Minnesota Board of Social Work LSW License and the PELSB Minnesota Educator Tier 4 License.
Funding for this program is provided by the Minnesota Department of Education and is intended to increase the number of school social workers in Minnesota who are People of Color and/or Indigenous. Upon graduation, all award recipients are expected to actively pursue employment in an urban public or charter school in Minnesota.
