Advisor on Duty (AOD)

The Advisor on Duty (AOD) is a professional academic advisor who provides timely advising to College of Business and Management (CBM) students. The AOD assists students who:

  • have not been assigned an CBM academic advisor;
  • have an assigned CBM academic advisor, but who is unavailable for an extended period of time;
  • have an assigned CBM academic advisor, but have time-sensitive advising needs or concerns (e.g. registration hold, access code restriction).

If you are a new student and have not been assigned an academic advisor, and your Degree Audit Report (DARS) is complete, the AOD can provide a full range of advising assistance. You will be assigned a CBM academic advisor after being admitted to the university. Once your academic advisor is assigned, you will receive an email from the CBM Advising Center indicating your advisor’s name and contact information. Once you have be an assigned an academic advisor, this information will also be available on your DARS report.

The AOD can help process forms, help you understand your degree requirements, and answer basic registration questions. See the chart below for some of the services with which the AOD can assist you. There are some services for which we prefer you make an appointment with your assigned academic advisor, such as degree planning, academic standing concerns, and academic appeals.

We encourage you to connect with your assigned academic advisor whenever possible. Developing and maintaining a relationship with your academic advisor can be a crucial component of successfully completing your degree.

The AOD is not meant to replace meeting with your academic advisor, but to supplement the relationship between you and your academic advisor. Reach out to your academic advisor first and if they are unavailable for a period of time, then contact the AOD.

Advisors are extremely busy during the registration period. Although we try to respond to you as quickly as possible, please understand that it may take longer than a day or two for us to get back to you during a peak period. Plan ahead - contact your academic advisor well before registration starts so that we can give you the prompt service that you desire.

If you have immediate advising needs e.g. access code, prerequisite override, and your academic advisor is unavailable, you may contact the Advising Center at 612-659-7269 and ask for the AOD. The AOD is available to you via phone, email, or stop by the Advising Center during office hours.
